Looking for an affordable way to keep the kids entertained this summer? The Arcadia Live has partnered with the Butt-Holdsworth Memorial Library to offer a free Summer Movie Series in downtown Kerrville.
Every Wednesday from June 3 through July 15, families can enjoy free matinee screenings at the historic Arcadia Live Theatre, offering an easy, no-cost thing to do during the week with kids. The special book-and-movie series encourages children to read the featured stories before experiencing them on the big screen, combining summer reading with a fun family outing.
To make the experience even more memorable, kids are encouraged to bring pillows and blankets and spread out on the theatre’s dance floor to create cozy movie-watching spots. Snacks will also be available by donation.
The remaining lineup includes several family favorites:
- June 17: Paddington (1:45 pm – 3:30 pm)
- June 24: The Bad Guys (1:45 pm – 3:30 pm)
- July 8: Dog Man (1:45 pm – 3:30 pm)
- July 15: The Wild Robot (1:45 pm – 3:30 pm)
The series takes place at The Arcadia Live, located at 717 Water Street in downtown Kerrville.
The Summer Movie Series is just one of many events happening during a milestone year for Arcadia Live. The beloved venue is celebrating its 100th anniversary in 2026, marking a full century since the theatre first opened its doors as a vaudeville and silent movie house in 1926.
Over the decades, the Arcadia evolved into one of Kerrville’s premier movie theaters before eventually closing in 1989. After sitting vacant for nearly three decades, the historic building was donated to a nonprofit organization in 2019 and lovingly restored with support from volunteers and the community.
Today, Arcadia Live serves as a state-of-the-art venue for concerts, performances, movies, and community gatherings, continuing its long tradition as a place where Kerrville comes together.
For families looking for free summer entertainment, the Summer Movie Series offers a chance to experience a piece of Kerrville history while enjoying some modern family favorites on the big screen.
